We have a WINNER!
Congratulations to KRYSTAL HAYES of Virginia!

Joshua's guitar was won by Krystal Hayes, whose daughter has GSD II. The raffle was a great success, raising nearly $1500 for the Joshua Adam Conrad Fund.

We give our sincere appreciation to all who participated - Thank YOU!

Please help us in our effort to raise money for the Joshua Adam Conrad Fund, which will support research to help those afflicted with GSD deal with the mental and physical problems that occur as a result of their unique dietary needs.

As an infant, Joshua Conrad was diagnosed with Glycogen Storage Disease Type Ia, a hard-to-control condition so rare that few physicians—then or now—understand how to best treat it.

Those who have glycogen storage disease (GSD-1a) can store the glucose their body needs in their liver, but can’t release what they’ve stored. It’s like having loads of money in the bank, except you can’t get it out to spend no matter how badly you need it. There’s a long list of potential complications from GSD, involving everything from liver and kidney failure to high blood pressure to tumors. After 19 years, Joshua’s body couldn’t take the strain anymore. On February 9, 2009, he died in his sleep.

Since Josh was a gifted musician, his family felt it would be a fitting tribute to Josh if they raised money to help others who suffer from GSD, so they’re raffling his Gibson Flying V Electric Guitar (tickets are $1 each, or six for $5), with the proceeds being donated to GSD research.

The drawing will be held on September 30, 2009 (Joshua’s birthday).

Tickets are $1 each or six for $5. Checks should be made payable to the “UF Glycogen Storage Disease Program” with a note in the memo field that it’s for the “Joshua Adam Conrad Fund.”
